Osteopathic Manual Spinal Decompression

PictureOsteopathy Manual Decompression/ Spinal Stenosis Relief
In need of  neck and back pain relief ?  It afflicts millions of people worldwide, and it is considered one of the most common physical ailment nowadays,  it is more prevalent in the adult population.

Compressed structures in the spine like facet joints, ligaments, spinal discs, spinal nerves,  but also ribs, pelvic-sacroiliac joints,  can affect our general  health in many negative ways; pain, discomfort and limitation of certain activities are common when the spine is not in an optimum balance.

When structures are compressed, limit the flow of nutrients, decrease circulation, oxygen and decrease spinal nerve conduction to organs and tissues in the spine and in the body.

Herniated or degenerative disc disease, worn vertebral joints, numbness and tingling in arms and legs, Sciatica pain, spinal stenosis, they all can be treated effectively with osteopathic manual decompression techniques.

Osteopathic spinal decompression approach is different that the common  mechanized approach that some Chiropractors  or Physiotherapists employ with the use of equipment to decompress  the spine, the osteopathic approach is based on decompressing and stabilizing the spine and structures that have direct or indirect connections with the spine.
The osteopathic approach based on one of its principles that the human body functions as  one unit, and  that all structures are connected, therefore decompressing the spine cannot have a long lasting effect if compromising structures affecting the spine are not addressed as well.

Osteopathy  with a fine touch, focuses not only on the spine itself, but on cranial bones , sacrum, sacroiliac structures, ribs, sternum.  Osteopathic manipulations has a profound positive effect on the dura mater, the outermost membrane of the meninges that surrounds the brain and spinal cord, responsible for keeping in the cerebrospinal fluid, and  connecting cranial structures to  the spine and tail bone.   Releasing  restrictions of  visceral organ connections to the spine which can compromise  it by restricting motion in the vertebral joints, and it is very important for spinal health.
Osteopathic manipulations are gentle and non invasive,  they release pressure in the vertebral spine, and discs,  decompressing structures, creating more space in  between joints, releasing pressure on spinal nerves, ligaments and  restrictions in cranial bones, pelvic and ribs which they  can have a direct effect on the spine.

There are general contraindications in individuals with spinal tumours, unstable spondylolisthesis, meningitis, severe osteoporosis, spinal fusions, spinal metal plates, screws,  fractures, abdominal aortic aneurysm.

In general, you should have significant improvement and pain relief, be more functional and independent with a treatment plan of 10 sessions, some individuals may need more depending in how advance the condition is, but factors like  general health of the client, diet, reducing stress, maintaining proper posture, using proper lifting and carrying techniques, and regular stretching exercises can have a positive impact on the  optimum maintenance of your spine.
